know beyond a shadow of a doubt
when you are sure that a fact is true
e.g. We know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he caused the accident.
as far as I know
you believe a fact is true... however there is a possibility that you could be mistaken
e.g. As far as I know, it's a Chinese Restaurant. But you can make a call, it might be a Thai Restaurant.
know by heart
you have memorized something perfectly
e.g. This is my favorite football club. I know all the players by heart!
know backwards and forwards / know inside out
when you know something extremely well about the topic
e.g. Of course I know this building inside out – I was the one who built it.
before you know it
something will happen so soon, it will be surprising
e.g. Enjoy your day at the ski sklope. The winter will be over before you know it.
God only knows
means that nobody knows something
e.g. I have been waiting in line for three hours. How much longer is this going to take? God only knows!
if you know what's good for you
saying that somebody should definitely do something; if they don't, they will be in trouble
e.g. You'd better stay away from my girlfriend if you know what's good for you!
not know the first thing about
it means that you know absolutely nothing about it; you are completely unfamiliar with it
e.g. I don't know the first thing about how to fix a PC. I'll have to call the IT specialist.
dying to know
it means you have a strong desire to know
e.g. My girlfriend says she's planned a really great surprise for Christmas... I'm dying to know what it is!
